2024
shaylyn martos is a Gracie Award winning producer, host and GM drawing from multimedia experience to produce solutions-focused work. shaylyn managed and mentored BIPOC youth journalists as a producer in YR Media's newsroom; she was also the season 3 host of Inherited, a climate justice podcast featuring emerging storytellers. She currently serves as a board member of the SF-Bay Area chapter of AAJA.
shaylyn is a proud member of the 2024 AIR New Voices Scholars, the NPR Next Generation Radio family and the inaugural early-career cohort of Chips Quinn Scholars in 2023. Their work is also featured on NPR's All Things Considered, the Washington Post's Post Reports, KQED's The Bay, and KCBS Radio.
As an Associate Producer for YR Media's newsroom, shaylyn managed and mentored interns ages 14-24 in news production and audio commentaries. They also produced projects with outlets like NPR's All Things Considered and the Washington Post's Post Reports podcast; she was also a storyteller in the second season of Critical Frequency and YR Media’s climate justice podcast, Inherited. She was the first to hold a rotating host position in Inherited's third season — establishing a position for young journalists to host and co-produce each new season.
She was also the first Raul Ramirez Diversity in Journalism Fund intern to work with KQED's The Bay podcast, working as a production assistant and reporting their own episode on Stockton's Little Manila. They co-produced and co-hosted The Happy Hour Newscast and served as multimedia editor for SF State's Golden Gate Xpress. In 2019, shaylyn was honored as an NPR Next Generation Radio mentee.
shaylyn also makes time for themselves, reading speculative fiction, cooking favorite CHamoru foods and playing dungeons&dragons. They write their own campaigns and GM, drawing on precolonial Filipinx culture using the companion content of The Islands of Sina Una.
